we are currently preparing departure for mid november.
the boat is "Lord Jim"
the crew will be Holger, Tracy, their dog Moana and me. then a guy named Dennis from New Zealand who will join us in Mexico, and very maybe a guy names Ira from Sausalito who still doesn't know if he can make it.
we are recaulking the decks right now and doing lots of odds and ends work to get thre boat and ourselves ready.
i got a new passport, presciption medication i might need, and my mom, who is in town, is helping me make preserves and dried fruits and vegetables.
the planned route is Sausalito - Pourto Vallarta - Pitcairn - (Easter Island) - Punta Arenas - Brazil
the other crazy idea
the last ocean, the unknown territory (or so we white landlubbers think) - we're thinking of the northwest passage. learning about the culture there and showing our son the ice before it melts and that place forever changes ... we just need a boat!

there will be a land adventure in the not too far future, and it looks like it will involve this big old wall. walking the length of it, from the desert to the sea, and hopefully catching a sailboat ride back home. or starting at the sea and catching a train back to europe? in 2015? - well, we might settle for Hadrian's wall in the UK first... to practice... and something more local and equaly gorgeous right here in the US...
